About Our Root Canal Therapy Service
Root canal therapy has an undeserved reputation as a painful procedure. The pain patients associate with root canals is caused by the infection itself — not the treatment. The procedure eliminates that pain. With modern rotary endodontic instruments, digital imaging, and effective local anesthesia, root canal therapy is no more uncomfortable than getting a filling.
Root canal therapy becomes necessary when the soft tissue inside the tooth — called the pulp — becomes infected or inflamed. This happens when bacteria enter the pulp through deep cavities, cracks, or traumatic injury. An infected pulp will not heal on its own; left untreated, the infection spreads to the bone around the root tip.
The procedure begins with thorough local anesthesia. We create a small access opening in the crown of the tooth, use rotary instruments to clean the infected pulp tissue from each root canal, irrigate with antimicrobial solutions, and seal the canals with gutta-percha. The tooth is then restored with a crown.
Most root canals are completed in a single 60–90 minute appointment. Following the procedure, any discomfort is typically mild and resolves within a few days. The treated tooth can last a lifetime with proper care.
